
Kickstart Your Career – Working in the Great Outdoors
Hands on practical learning in a retail nursery.
Kickstart Your Career improves your “employability” by helping you discover and practice your skills, talents and interests. This flexible 8-week program is ideal for people who are interested in landscaping, conservation and land management, gardening, the outdoors and are considering a career in agriculture or horticulture and would like a ‘taster’, or who would like an introduction to aspects of working in the industry before choosing a specific course/study pathway.
No prior experience is necessary.
Course Outline
Working in a team with fellow participants at a production nursery, you will gain a broad overview and practical, hands-on experience in topics such as:
- introduction to plant recognition
- propagation
- planting
- soil properties
- environmentally sustainable work practices
- career pathways/further study in the horticulture industry.

Who is it for?
Open to anyone who wants to explore the skills and knowledge needed to work in the horticulture/agriculture industry.
Duration
Course length is 100 hours delivered 9am – 3pm 2 days per week for 8 weeks.

Course is delivered mostly outdoors in a working not for profit nursery with practical hands on tasks and some time in a classroom setting. Rolling intake and flexible entry and exit. You can join the course at any time.

Advance Native Nursery, 43 Mitchell Street, MORNINGTON. Monday & Tuesday
Fees & Charges
This course is subsidised by the Victorian Government through Adult, Community and Further Education (ACFE).
Full delivery fee is $85.00
Concession fee (for eligible participants) is $17.00
