“I was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder years ago. That made mainstream school difficult. VCAL at Advance was a suitable option as it was flexible, and gave me a thorough education. I was proud to graduate Year 12 VCAL at the end of 2014.”

Certificate III in Aged Care

Trainer: Lois

“Back in April 2014 I decided to embark on the training course for Certificate III in Aged Care and Certificate III in Home and Community Care. I was ‘lucky’ enough to have secured a job in HACC while I did my training. During this time our family was experiencing hard times with illness, however my ongoing training and opportunities to discuss issues with my training colleagues and instructor helped me to resolve or ease the health issues our family were experiencing. Lois, our instructor, was able to impart a lot of practical knowledge which would hold us in good stead for our future jobs, though at the time we didn’t realise it.

I was lucky to do my placement hours with Brickendon Lodge Aged Care, and at the end of the placement, was offered a permanent part time position as a PCA. I am currently the only male PCA there. The management earmarked certain staff to try for their Enrolled Nurse (EN) qualification, if they felt inclined. At the end of November I sat my VETASSESS test and subsequently was offered a position at Chisholm Frankston. I start my Div 2 EN education in February doing it in a full time capacity. More learning. More books. But this seems to be my journey.

I am sure all our success is due to Lois’ teaching and knowledge. The practical technique behind the theory has put us streets ahead of the work competition.”

“I finished my schooling at Advanc. I got a job at S.C.C. I work as a PCA, a cleaner and in hospitality. I am very happy where I am and it was the staff at Advance that helped me to get where I am where I am going with my employment.”

“I completed my Certificate III in Home and Community Care with Advance. I am now working in HACC with ‘My Health Carers’ – Prestige.

I have clients for homecare and personal care. Two stand outs are my clients with MS and MND. I am now studying Certificate IV in Aged Care and a Dementia course through the University of Tasmania. This is entry into a 3 year Bachelor course with the university. Loving my job and my studies. Thank you Lois!”
